Last Friday, the Salzburg Festival leadership and Cecilia Bartoli announced their further cooperation starting with the artistic directorship of Markus Hinterhäuser in 2017.

In 2012 Cecilia Bartoli became the first woman to be appointed artistic director of the Salzburg Whitsun Festival. Her great artistic success went hand in hand with extraordinary increases in ticket revenues. During the past three years, she has set new standards with her ideas and her interpretations.

Markus Hinterhäuser: “I am happy that Cecilia Bartoli has promised us further collaboration at such an early point in time. To research, to think and discuss with her is a special privilege. She is an outstanding artist with an ability to enchant audiences which is given only to very few singers. However, she is far more than that. She has mastered the art of tempting other artists to participate in special projects, thus lending the Whitsun Festival a very special aura.”

Cecilia Bartoli: “I am overjoyed and grateful to be able to continue to make wonderful music and art flourish and resound in the great city of Salzburg as Artistic Director of the Whitsun Festival – thus continuing for several more years in the absolute Champions’ League of festivals! Since my future boss Markus Hinterhäuser is not only a successful festival manager, but most importantly a wonderful person, musician and artist, this will provide the perfect foundation as we strive to define future common Whitsun themes: a creative give-and-take at eye level.”

Helga Rabl-Stadler: “This is a good day for the Festival and for Cecilia Bartoli. We can develop this artistically and economically successful project further; and Cecilia Bartoli can continue to use the unique possibilities of the Festival to implement her ideas.”
